Pirkka Dining set by Ilmari Tapiovaara for Laakan Puu, 1960s

£1,600.00

A characterful “Pirkka” dining set by Ilmari Tapiovaara, comprising a dining table and four chairs. The Pirkka range, designed by architect and designer Ilmari Tapiovaara in 1955 for manufacturer Laukaan Puu in Finland, takes its styling cues from Finnish rustic furniture, combining character and style with practicality for everyday use.

The table, seats, and backrests are made from solid Finnish pine, with a thick tabletop showcasing a beautiful grain, contrasted by ebonised legs for a striking effect. The pieces feature the characteristic split centre with dowel details, and each item bears the branded Pirkka name burnt into the underside. With its compact proportions, this set is ideal for smaller living spaces. It is original and in good, vintage condition, showing a warm patina and gentle signs of age.
