A classic and quietly sculptural design, formed from bent birch plywood with solid birch armrests, reflecting Aalto’s approach to natural materials and organic form. Originally made for the Paimio Sanitorium for use in entrance halls and waiting spaces, it is an iconic piece of Scandinavian modernism
Both chairs display an even patina from age and use. There is evidence of earlier veneer cracking to the curved seat sections, which appears to have been stabilised or repaired at some point in their life. Fine lines remain visible in the grain, typical of bent birch over time. This is a cosmetic characteristic and does not affect the strength or usability of the chairs. Original screws seem to have been replaced too.
The chairs can also be sold separately.
